TIP is proud to announce auditions
for a staged reading of IN A WORD by Lauren Yee,
directed by Brian Berdanier
Grief collides with comedy as ordinary turns of phrase take on dangerous new meanings in this lyrical, absurdist journey on how to get over, get around, and get through what haunts you.
WHAT IS A "STAGED READING"?
Quite simply, a staged reading is theater in its purest form. Actors delivering a fully realized performance with scripts in hand. Minimal "bells and whistles" to distract from the text itself. Some stage directions may be read aloud. Sets, costumes, and lighting effects are reduced to the barest essentials. It is perhaps closest in form to a radio play or audiobook, performed for a live audience!
WHAT TO PREPARE
A short (2-3 minute) monologue, preferably featuring heightened language. Shakespeare and Shaw would be appropriate choices for this audition, as would contemporary playwrights such as Luis Alfaro, Sarah Ruhl, and Lauren Gunderson. Monologues should be memorized, although you should bring a printed copy for the casting team if possible. Contact the casting director at the email address below if you have questions about choosing an appropriate piece. You will also be asked to complete a liability waiver, Covid-19 safety agreement, and general questionnaire so you can tell us about your theater/performance background and rehearsal availability.
